The 3rd annual Reel Identities New Orleans LGBT film festival is just two months away.
This year there are some big, exciting changes. We're moving from the weekend after Mardi Gras to June 10-12, in the midst of Pride Month activities. We also are moving to a new venue, Southern Rep Theatre at Canal Place (we will have a stamp for reduced-rate parking).
We're in the process of finalizing our schedule, and have confirmed some really good titles, including:
--"That Man: Peter Berlin," a fascinating character study of Peter Berlin, whose self-mythologizing erotic photographs of himself established him as a gay icon of the 1970s
--"The D Word," a hilarious NYC parody of that "other" sapphic series
--"Where the Girls Are," a comic look at the history, parties and conflicts of the Dinah Shore Weekend, which has evolved from a simple golf event to a legendary lesbian blowout
--"Have No Fear," which follows biologically-male Nicole McRory's life as a musician and a transgendered woman on the threshold of taking the greatest step of her life: sex reassignment surgery.
There's a ton of work still left to do, and we welcome volunteers
(who will earn tickets for hours served). What we will need in
particular are people who can distribute advertising cards and
posters, and people to help with the festival itself: ticket sellers
and takers, bartenders, set-up and break-down helpers, people to pick up filmmakers at airport, and especially are hoping to find someone who can take on the role of volunteer coordinator.
